Jinhua Yang is currently pursuing a BFA at East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina. She is a ceramic artist with a background in graphic design, specializing in both functional and sculptural work. She has a deep interest in wild clay and atmospheric firings. Drawing inspiration from the natural landscape and the material itself, her work explores the raw beauty of locally sourced clay.
During her studies at ECU, she focused on refining wild clay as both a clay body and glaze material. Her passion for material exploration has led them to work with various firing methods, including wood, soda, and salt firing, to bring out the unique characteristics of each piece.
While at ECU, she interned at the North Carolina Pottery Center (NCPC) and built connections with artists from Starworks and Seagrove, further deepening her engagement with regional clay traditions.
